My name is Lena Smith. I am a traditional Dineh (Navajo) weaver from Black Mesa Arizona. My clan is Red River Running into the Water Clan and Born for Yucca Fruit Clan. My maternal clan is Manygoats and my paternal clan is Cover with Clover.

There are many stories about weaving in the Dineh tradition. The designs we use tell a story about who we are and where we came from. This is our story.

I started weaving small and medium size rugs in 1989. I learned how to weave by observing my mother. I started weaving to help earn money when my husband was recovering from surgery and unable to work for a year. Since that time, I have continued to weave, mainly the Two Grey Hills design which came from a place in New Mexico by that name; the Storm pattern design passed on from our ancestors through our family for many generations; the Eyedazzler design based on traditional designs and my imagination; and saddle blankets.

All my rugs are woven on a hand loom using natural wool and can be customized upon request.

Your purchase of my rugs will help me to support my children. I have two sons and 1 daughter, ages 15, 10 and 5 years. It is my hope that these rugs will bring much joy to all who purchase them.
