Ya'at'eeh-
my name is chris interpreter,i am a deer spring born for the
many goat
clan, my grandfather on my mothers' side is the wandering people
and my
grandfather on my fathers' side is the red streak runing into
water people.
i come from the area know as hard rock.
From the time we were created until now, we have had conflicts
and
forgiveness for the pain we have endured and recieved. the millinium
has
ended. our lands are still comprised of people who have dilluted
us from
our ways of life. I remember a time in my life where we navajos(dine)
relied on you the people to trade our livestock for the corn and
squash. We
were united then. at festivals and dances. we did not need any
help from
America. we were america and all that she stands for. I have
no right to
ask for forgiveness for the ignorance of the past. I need you
to understand
that we need you and your people more than ever, to undo what
we have done
to our mother. If we deny the right to life-on our own homeland,
that in
turn would prove to the corporate powers that we have become the
white
man-through the way of thinking. This would make it much easier
for
congress to pass the anti-indian legeslative bill(which terminates
the
treaties every tribe has made).
In my memory the only time we have deafeated the U.S government
was
through the unity of all tribes. The tabacco clan is proof of
how we are
related. our people(indian nations) believe that we are a part
of the earth
and do not have any right under natural law, to say that this
belongs to us
or that belongs to us. there maybe people who do not want us
to realize, or
do anything to bring about change, because they are complacent
with the
suffering. In the old days--our true leaders did not take, but
gave to
their people. He would be the poor and not the most successfull.
We must
train ourselves to be unselfesh and not let our hate devour us.
If that is
the conclusion, then we all have taken the wrong road to prophecy
rock.
-thank you for your patience
