MARSHA MONESTERSKY GETS NOTICE OF PROPOSED ORDER OF EXCLUSION

I wanted to let you know that I just received a Notice of Proposed Order of
Exclusion from the Hopi Tribe on Friday, June 18, 1999. This is the same
Order of Exclusion that was given to Kee Shay. When I saw him yesterday,
Saturday, June 19, he said, "We are in this together."

I believe that this Order was served to me in an effort to weaken the Dineh
resisters response to the actions being perpetuated against them, including
the response recently submitted by Kee Shay.

Leonard Benally from Big Mountain agrees. He says, "Kee Shay is handicapped,
hard of hearing and an elder traditional. He is supposed to be respected and
doesn't know anything of the laws that violate him. He did not even spend 1
day in school. He was on this land long ago, long before our land was called
HPL. We have been living here for centuries. The Hopi tribe and the BIA
just treats us like we are from somewhere else. The Hopi tribe and the BIA
are just preying on people. They are predators picking off my people one by
one. We have a right to live here. We all drink one water, breath one air
and have one land here. We are all one."

When I told Leonard that I just received a Notice of Proposed Order of
Exclusion, he said, "We need your help, since the Hopi and Navajo tribes and
the US government does not care about us. I guess this means that you are
one of us, illegal like we are. We will all probably get these Exclusion
Orders so we are all in this together." This is the same sentiment expressed
by May Shay, Kee Shay's wife who said upon hearing about my Notice of
Proposed Order of Exclusion said, "We'll just do a tug-of-war with the Hopi
police for you. Who else is going to help us? We want you here with us."
