THE CARAVAN MOMENTS BEFORE THE FBI STOPPED IT

Over Thanksgiving weekend 1997 six vans and sport utility vehicles arrived at Big Mountain from Los Angeles. The relief drive was organized by SOL Communications and contained hundreds of pounds of food that was delivered to 12 homesites. Also included on the drive was a van load of clothing, tools, propane, batteries and other essential supplies that the elders had asked for. Some money was included.

SOL would like to thank all those that contributed to the drive. We are recieving donations and supplies for the next caravan leaving before Christmas.

While we were there, Hopi Rangers harrassed Ruth Benally and John Benally for signatures that would allow law enforcement onto their land for a dubious excuse about endangered plants. John politely asked the ranger if he could bring some straw and food instead of the piece of paper.

As the caravan was leaving Big Mountain by way of the Mine area, the FBI stopped and questioned us.
